President of SADC, Jakaya Kikwete (President of Tanzania)
and Deputy Chairperson of SADC Troika Organ, Joyce Banda (President of Malawi)

Speaking at the end of the 32nd ordinary summit of the SADC heads of state and governments held in Maputo, Mozambique (17-18 August 2012), the President of Tanzania Jakaya Kikwete, who is now the Chairperson of the SADC Organ on peace, politics and security Troika, said there was a huge need for doubled effort in solving the many troublesome situations in the region.

President Kikwete said the situation in Madagascar seemed to be getting difficult, saying however, the solution was closer hence encouraging SADC countries not to give up. He then invited heads of state to next year’s international smart partnership summit to be held in his country.

For your information: the next SADC heads of state ordinary summit will be held in Lilongwe, Malawi, next year. This was announced by the President of Malawi, Madam Joyce Banda, who is now the Deputy Chairperson of the Organisation when inviting SADC heads of state to attend the summit to be held in her country.
